To prevent avalanche accidents and help people make good decisions in avalanche terrain, the Canadian Avalanche Centre (CAC) and avalanche professionals in over 30 Canadian communities share their expertise to help people keep safe in the mountains during Avalanche Awareness Day presented by Canadian Pacific Railway. Here in Fernie we have a day full of interactive and educational activities!
10am - 2pm: Join us in the base area (beside the Deer Chair) for a variety of educational and fun activities. Activities include transceiver education and practice course, avalanche and backcountry trivia, a route-finding activity with hazard awareness, and a CARDA Dog demonstration (Kirk Gutzman and his avalanche rescue dog Digger will stop by).
1.30pm: Join us at the top of the Great Bear Express for a Snow Pit Profile Demo.
3pm: Join us in the Daylodge for a special showing of "Throttle Decisions" a Snowmobile Backcountry education video.
4pm: Join us in the Griz Bar for a fundraising gear auction with proceeds going directly to the Canadian Avalanche Centre. Bid on some great items from our sponsors: Helly Hansen, Outdoor Research, Marmot, MEC and more!
