Alpine Enthusiasts is a trail riding business in the middle of the Rocky Mountains in Fernie, British Columbia, Canada. We are a small family owned business that caters to private groups of up to 8 people. This small number allows us to provide personal service to our customers and we have saddle horses for every riding ability - from novice to very experienced riders. All of our trail rides are fun and adventurous, in that they are not "head to tail." Rides vary from hourly trips (along the beautiful Elk River) to day trips and overnight trips into alpine areas some of which contain alpine lakes. Your days will include crossing or using game trails made by Elk and Moose. As well, there will be opportunities to see Sheep, Goat or Bear. You will travel through large coniferous forests on your way to beautiful alpine areas where the views are stupendous, so be prepared for excellent photo opportunities as well as breathtaking views!
On overnight trips, everything from the horse to accommodation (heated tent on a raised wooden floor) to food is included.
The only thing the client has to bring is a smile (and of course clothes and rain gear!) . On extended trips the rides are varied, and restful evenings are spent at base camp around a comfortable open fire sharing stories and camaraderie.
All trips take place in the watershed of the Elk River. The Elk River is in the Southeastern B.C. and drains the eastern side of the continental divide of the Rocky Mountains.
The area boasts most of the large big game animals of North America. Some of the world's biggest Rocky Mountain Sheep utilize the area and the mountain goat population is the largest anywhere. There are also large populations of elk, deer, moose, and bear (black and grizzly). Rivers, lakes and streams contain cutthroat trout, dolly varden and whitefish.
The owners, Rick and Shari Gris have been doing this for over twenty-five years.
Our horses are all kept in top condition all year round and are more than trail horses as they are also family pets.
