Bike Park Update: This is Your Bike Park
June 14, 2012
This is your bike park. There are many like it, but this one is yours. In ten days, these legendary loamy lines will be yours for the taking once again. While this spring start up felt overwhelmingly daunting for our crew at times, we forge ahead through spring time snowfalls, rain fall warnings, soupy soil, delays, sore bodies, mechanical breakdowns, and seemingly endless to-do lists to bring you Your Legendary Fernie Alpine Resort Bike Park for Summer 2012. We hope you missed us, because we sure missed you.
For preview weekend, we are excited to offer over 34 bike trails and the new Aerials Park and Ripin' Zipline. The Elk Chair will be operating with access to the lower Timber side trails available via a short ride up to the Deer Trail. With over two meters of snow still at the Timber Chair unload, we are looking at a possible opening of the upper Timber hiking and biking trails in early July. If you haven't purchased your seasons pass yet, the early bird price of $199.00 is available until June 24th or you can upgrade to a dual mountain pass (Kicking Horse Mountain Resort and Fernie Alpine Resort) for an extra $30.00. Check out our website at www.skircr.com/membership to order or for more information.
It has been a busy week for the Bike Crew. We have completed the new lower mountain mega bike lane; it rides eerily similar to the Deerfoot Freeway with exit and entrance berms although much more fun and with less traffic jams. Top Gun is, once again, receiving a major facelift with the always-challenging lower section transitioning to a mixture of the original trail and the new line that was put in a few years ago. Of course, we have added a few new twists and turns for fun. Mr. Berms acquired four dump truck loads of new soil, which our hand crews are feverishly working to spread and pack. General repairs are concluding on some of the spring erosion challenges, bridge repairs, and removal of hazard trees while also trying to squeeze in some berm rebuilds, roller reconstruction, and rock armoring where possible. The new bridges in are on Phat Larry's and will receive some final line tweaking before opening to make sure things are riding just right. If Mother Nature cooperates we should even be able to add a few new surprises just in time for opening weekend.

With the 2012 bike season rapidly upon us, there is a heavy reminder that we are each another summer older. What snapshots has summer at Fernie Alpine Resort added to your memory album over the last ten years? It is the remembrance and pursuit of these landmarks that feed our crew’s passion and drive to create the best bike park possible for our guests year after year.
We endeavor to make this a truly legendary place for you, where one may get a brief chance to stop time and deny the ephemeral at every turn. Our sincerest hope is that we have maintained some of your favorite things about Fernie and perhaps, may have even added a few more. The entire summer operations crew looks forward to seeing you for another legendary summer opening. In the meantime, you may want to invest in a new toothbrush. You just might need it June 23rd to clean the soil out of your ear-to-ear dirt eating grin.
Sincerely,
Your Fernie Alpine Resort Bike Crew
