2 MORE SLEEPS - FERNIE ALPINE RESORT WELCOMES ANOTHER SEASON OF LEGENDARY POWDER

Calgary, AB – December 11, 2008– Fernie Alpine Resort is eager to start another season of Legendary Powder, and will do just that when the ski resort opens on Saturday, December 13th.

Limited terrain and early seasons conditions will exist on the mountain, but natural snow continues to accumulate in Fernie’s legendary alpine bowls. The ski resort has received 16cm of new snow in the past week and the current forecast is calling for moderate to heavy snowfall on Friday, so be sure to give your thanks to Griz.

Due to the limited terrain available, Fernie will offer a reduced adult day lift ticket rate of $49, with reduced rates available for senior, youth and child tickets.

The Griz Bar will be open this weekend, featuring live music by Rick Voisey on Saturday and Sunday to celebrate the start of a new ski season. A number of events and activities will keep the resort lively over the upcoming weeks, including:

Kinky Rail Jam – Saturday, December 20th
Skiers and snowboarders will slide with style at Fernie Alpine Resort’s 6th annual Kinky Rail Jam. Open to both skiers and snowboarders, this rail competition will be set in a jam format so that each rider has a number of feature options. Overall talent and skill will help the judges choose their champions. The entry fee is $20 + GST and registration is available online at www.skircr.com/compete or from 9am - 10am in the Daylodge on the day of the event.

All competitors are asked to bring a $20 bib deposit, and helmets are mandatory for the competition. Competitors under the age of 19 must have one of their parents, a legal guardian or certified card-carrying coach accompany them in person to registration.

4th Annual Fernie Alpine Resort Community Appreciation Day – Sunday, December 21st Fernie Alpine Resort will once again say ‘Thank You’ to local communities by offering a FREE day of skiing and riding to the residents of Fernie, Elko, Elkford, Jaffray, Sparwood and all residents living in the Elk Valley, as part of the annual Community Appreciation Day.

The Resort will also be hosting a charity BBQ on the Kokanee Deck that day from 11:00am to 2:30pm. Local guests can treat themselves to a $2.00 BBQ courtesy of Fernie Alpine Resort, New Classic Foods, Maple Leaf Foods, Weston Bakeries and Heinz Canada. All proceeds will go to support the Fernie Salvation Army Food Bank.
