FERNIE ALPINE RESORT ANNOUNCES FIRST COMMUNITY SUMMIT FUND GRANT RECIPIENTS

 
Fernie, BC – June 14, 2007– Fernie Alpine Resort is pleased to announce the first recipients of grants from the Community Summit Fund, a $150,000 and five year initiative that aims to support a wide variety of causes, benefiting all members of the community, with an emphasis on positive opportunities for youth.

The first Community Summit Fund recipients include:

Fernie Chamber of Commerce, for the construction of the Fernie Interpretive Centre
District of Sparwood Recreation Department / Ghostrider Adventure Camp
Elk Valley PARTY Program
Fernie Heritage Library and Fernie District Arts Council

A number of projects will receive in-kind support from Fernie Alpine Resort, including: The Fernie and District Arts Council and Rotary Club of Fernie for A Taste of Fernie, The FernieFest Society, Elk Valley Society for Community Living and The Fernie Writers’ Conference. In total, $4500 in cash has been contributed to date.

The Fund will donate a total of $150,000 in cash, with $30,000 allocated to local causes each year for the next five years (2007 through 2011). Grant applications are reviewed by the Community Summit Fund committee on a monthly basis.

All local organizations and charities are eligible for the program. To be eligible, a written application must be presented, outlining the following: the background / history of the beneficiary organization; a description of the Project receiving the grant; and date / timeline of the project in question. The next deadline for applications is July 1st, 2007. Applications are available for download at www.skifernie.com/summitfund.
