60th Anniversary Celebration Weekend 2022

60 years ago, plastic-shelled ski boots were invented, Spiderman debuted in Marvel comics, the Rolling Stones played their first live show, AND on January 10th, 1962, Fernie Snow Valley Ski Resort officially opened. Fernie Alpine Resort is excited to be celebrating 60 years of legendary experiences, powder days and après!
Join us for a weekend full of retro events, outfits, live music and dancing!
This Saturday, get your choreography skills together for our Ski Ballet competition (on lower Ballet). There will be beer gardens, a DJ at the Bear’s Den, and live music from the retro cover band Liquid Silence in the Griz Bar!
On Sunday, join us for an old-school mogul bash, beer gardens and a DJ at the Bear’s Den.
Plus, BOTH DAYS – Retro outfits are encouraged with prizes for the best retro outfits and looks.

Show off your skills in a choreographed ski/blade dance set to music. The ski ballet demonstration area will be set up on the lower part of the Ballet run leading into the Bear’s Den There are 6 categories:

  • Ski – Men
  • Ski – Women
  • Youth Ski – Men
  • Youth Ski – Women
  • Snowblade – Men
  • Snowblade – Women
This is an all-ages event, so participants’ song choices MUST be family-friendly and clean, both in the song lyrics and content (explicit songs with words beeped out or silenced will not work). Routines should be 90 seconds in length as per Olympic demonstration rules – but let’s be honest, this isn’t the Olympics. If you are still grooving after 90 seconds, we aren’t going to cut you off. Routines will be judged based on your theme/outfit choice, style, artistic display, and technical execution.
Entry is FREE, and you have a chance to win great prizes from Helly Hansen and Rossignol. Plus, you can win a limited edition 60th anniversary t-shirt!
All participants must complete their Event Release Agreement Waiver online ahead of time: 
    • Participants that are 16yrs and older must complete the EVENT WAIVER.
    • Participants that are 15 yrs and younger must have their parent or legal guardian complete BOTH the EVENT WAIVER and PARENTAL CONSENT WAIVER.

What’s better than busting out your retro ski outfits and taking on the moguls – old-school-style!

Join us on the lower bear run to show off your best old-school skills in our Mogul Bash competition. This celebration of slush will see participants judged on their run for best style/outfit, the best worm turns, jet turns, and old school tricks – spread eagles, and back scratchers and recovery (Spectacular-linked recoveries will be rewarded).

There are 4 categories:

  • Ski – Men
  • Ski – Women
  • Youth Ski – Men
  • Youth Ski – Women

This is an all-ages event. Entry is FREE, and there are great prizes from Helly Hansen and Rossignol. Plus, you can win a highly coveted limited edition 60th Anniversary T-Shirt.

Helmets are mandatory for all participants, and all participants must complete their Event Release of Liability Waiver online ahead of time:

    • Participants that are 16yrs and older must complete the EVENT WAIVER.
    • Participants that are 15 yrs and younger must have their parent or legal guardian complete BOTH the EVENT WAIVER and PARENTAL CONSENT WAIVER.

  • Take a photo of yourself and/or your crew on the mountain in your retro outfits.
